Cryptosporidium and Herbal Remedies: A Natural Approach to assist Healing

Cryptosporidium got you good? Meet the microscopic Parasite thats surging across QLD and NSW.

Cryptosporidium, often referred to as "Crypto," is a microscopic parasite that causes the disease cryptosporidiosis. Since the start of 2024, 823 cryptosporidiosis cases have been reported in Queensland Australia (up to 7 February 2024). A total of 736 cases were reported in January 2024 alone – which is thirteen times higher than the numbers reported in January last year, and has been responsible for 498 cases of diarrhoea in NSW this year – a five-fold increase on the five-year average of 95 for the same period. The parasite affects the intestine, causing diarrhoea as well as nausea, vomiting, headache, fever and loss of appetite. While medical treatment is often necessary to manage severe cases of cryptosporidiosis, herbal remedies can play a supportive role in speeding up healing and importantly boosting immunity.

Understanding Cryptosporidium

Cryptosporidium is a resilient parasite that can be found in soil, food, water, and surfaces contaminated with faeces from infected humans or animals. It is highly contagious and can spread rapidly in environments with poor sanitation or hygiene practices. The infection is commonly acquired by swimming in and swallowing water contaminated with cryptosporidium parasites, not washing fruit and vegetables properly before consumption or swimming in estuaries or ocean waterways after heavy rain. Once ingested, the parasite infects the lining of the intestines, leading to inflammation and the symptoms associated with cryptosporidiosis.

Treatment for Cryptosporidium

QLD and NSW health authorities are noting that those with a strong immune system will recover without the need for treatment, many studies are showing that herbal remedies can be used as complementary therapies to support the body's natural healing process, boost immunity and ensure proper eradication. Effective herbs and supplements for combating parasites like Cryptosporidium include Wormwood, Clove and Black Walnut which are all incorporated in our Parasite Cleanse Capsules.

  • Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium)
Wormwood is a potent herb known for its antimicrobial and antiparasitic properties. It contains compounds like artemisinin that have been shown to inhibit the growth and spread of parasites, including Cryptosporidium. Wormwood is incorporated in Zeally Herbs Parasite Cleanse Capsules.
  • Clove (Syzygium aromaticum)
Clove is another powerful herb with antiparasitic and anti-inflammatory properties. It contains eugenol, a compound that has been shown to effectively kill parasites and reduce inflammation in the digestive tract. Clove is incorporated in Zeally Herbs Parasite Cleanse Capsules.
  • Black Walnut (Juglans nigra)
Black walnut is a natural remedy that has been traditionally used to treat parasitic infections due to its high concentration of juglone, tannins, and other compounds with antimicrobial properties. It can help to kill and expel parasites from the digestive system and improve overall gut health. Black walnut can be taken in tincture or capsule form to assist in healing and  is also incorporated in Zeally Herbs Parasite Cleanse Capsules.

Supplements to Improve Immunity

In addition to herbal remedies, certain supplements can help boost immunity and support the body's ability to fight off infections. Some beneficial supplements for cryptosporidiosis include:

  • Probiotics:
Probiotic supplements can help restore the balance of beneficial bacteria in the gut, which can be disrupted by parasitic infections like Cryptosporidium.
  • Vitamin C:
Vitamin C is an essential nutrient that plays a key role in immune function. Taking vitamin C supplements can help strengthen the immune system and support recovery from cryptosporidiosis.
  • Fulvic Humic Acid Concentrate:
Fulvic and humic acid concentrate can be a valuable natural remedy for assisting healing and supporting recovery from Cryptosporidium infection. Their antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and nutritional properties make them effective in reducing the severity of symptoms, promoting gut health, and boosting overall immunity. Zeally Herbs supply what we believe to be the some of the most pure, organic fulvic humic acid and we encourage its use as part of a holistic Parasite Cleanse.
  • Zinc:
Zinc is another important nutrient for immune function and overall health. Zinc supplements can help enhance immune response and promote healing of the intestinal lining.

While medical treatment is essential for managing severe cases of cryptosporidiosis (particularly when diarrohea is severe, there is the case of weakened immunity or risk of dehydration) herbal remedies and supplements can play a supportive role in assisting healing and boosting immunity. Wormwood, clove, black walnut, and immune-boosting supplements like probiotics, vitamin C, fulvic humic acid and zinc can be valuable additions to a comprehensive treatment plan for cryptosporidiosis. As always, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new herbal remedies or supplements, and note that if you are pregnant or nursing our Parasite Cleanse supplements are not for use during this time.
